Choosing the Right Motorcycle for the Inexperienced Rider

So you want to buy a motorcycle? Well congratulations for making one of the best decisions in your life. Motorcycling is fun and economical. Choosing the right motorcycle is going to enhance your experience.

A lot of first time Motorbike owners choose the wrong Motorbike because they look for a motorcycle that they think “looks good”. When you choose your motorbike by the way it looks only, it is like buying a car with a great stereo system and never looking under the bonnet!

There are certain things you need to consider when you are buying your first motorbike that will help you to find the right motorcycle for you.

Size:

Motorcycles come in different sizes. Different engine sizes and different weights. The higher the CC’s the heavier the motorcycle. The heavier the motorbike the harder it is to handle. You have to consider that as a new rider owner, being able to get both feet on the ground when you are stopped is really important.

You also want to consider engine size, because you want to be able to control your motorbike, not have it control you. Sport bikes, touring bikes and even some off road motorbikes present some common problems to the new owner. They are high speed motorcycles with intimidating engines that demand respect from the rider.

Finding a motorbike that you are comfortable sitting on, where you can hold it up easily and where both feet can be planted firmly on the ground is going to make your riding experiences much more enjoyable.

The wrong size motorcycle that is hard for you to control can leave you spilled out on the ground, it is also much more likely that you will drop the motorbike and cause damage to the motorcycle.

Cruising bikes

A great first motorbike choice is a cruising bike. They are easy to handle, comfortable and come in a full range of sizes for all different body types. Each manufacturer makes a line of cruising motorcycles that are ideal for just about every level of rider.

These types of motorcycles come is a full range of heights which is perfect for folks that are shorter or taller. This is one of the best styled motorcycle for new or inexperienced riders buying their first motorcycle.

If You Insist.

If you absolutely have to have a sport motorbike or a touring motorcycle there are some that are made specifically for new riders. These types of sport bikes are typically lighter with a smaller cc engine. They are more forgiving then their larger counterparts are.

Keep in mind the more bells and whistles the more potential for damages and the more expensive the motorbike will be. For example having saddle bags on your motorbike is pretty convenient but if your motorcycle topples over or if you drop it than those are just something else that you will have to pay to replace.

Keep it simple and keep it safe. As time wears on and you become more experienced those motorbikes with the bells and whistles will still be there.
